Perspectives, August 2017

Despite billions of dollars in contributions since 2007, funded status has not significantly improved. Plan sponsors who are employing a “wait and see” strategy may be missing out on a prime opportunity to de-risk now and minimize contribution unpredictability as well as reduce future balance sheet volatility.

Table summary: Despite $413 billion in pension contributions since 2007, funding status remains around 80% as of December 31, 2016.
